UV WEATHER TEST CHAMBER

What is the UV Weather Test Chamber?

The UV weather testing chamber system is a laboratory simulation of the forces that quickly destroy nature, predicting the relative durability of non-metallic materials when directly exposed to the action of the weather. It has independent compartments for flat and larger specimens. As they are independent, in this equipment it is possible to carry out a simultaneous test with different light sources. Example: Ultraviolet or Ultraviolet B. For this, both tests must have the same configuration. The UV Weather Test Chamber makes use of a UV lamp and condensation mechanism to simulate sunlight, dew, and rain, thus reproducing subsequent harmful effects such as color change, fading, yellowing, cracking, gloss loss, crazing, blistering, hazing, peeling, aging, oxidation, fragility, strength loss, etc.

Working Principle

The materials, when tested, are given several alternating UV and moisture cycles at certain temperatures to simulate an accelerated aging test, generating reproducible and reliable weathering data in just a few days or weeks. If the same procedure is produced without the use of the UV accelerated aging chamber, outdoors, the test may take months or years, which is not feasible. During the process, the equipment automatically monitors the UV temperature, water temperature, and the irradiance controller used to regulate and stabilize the irradiance at desired values.

Features :

  • The UV weathering test equipment employs special fluorescent lamps to simulate UV light at special critical frequencies to reproduce the damage commonly caused by sunlight. It is a piece of easy-to-use and low-maintenance equipment. The sample surface is parallel to the UV lamps.
  • The outer case is made of stainless steel and CNC machined for a smooth appearance. Inside the chamber, there is a channel to improve airflow and temperature stability.
  • Eight UV lamps are mounted on two sides of the test chamber.
  • The UV accelerated aging test chamber adopts the channel water heating method to realize rapid heating and even heat distribution, and the automatic water supply system provides more protection to the heating pipes.
  • This instrument consists of high-quality casters and the sample holders are made of stainless steel and aluminum alloy.
  • An automatic sprinkler is placed inside the spray system to adjust the water pressure, while a multi-color touch screen or high-performance PID controller is employed.
  • For safety reasons, various protection functions are offered, such as circuit breakers, overload protection, short circuit protection, over-temperature protection, and water shortage protection.

Simulating the Effect of the rain and dew

Material kept outside comes into contact with humidity for more than 12 hours. According to the research outside humidity is considered as dew, not rain. The accelerated weathering test chamber uses several condensation theories to imitate outside humidity effects.

Yatherm test chamber has an inbuilt water storage tank with ISI mark SS 304 heaters to produce steam inside the chamber. The machine is designed in such a way to ensure test sample must constitute the chamber’s side wall, The Test will be exposed inside the indoor atmosphere. Inside-chamber cooling makes the sample surface cool and lowers the temperature. Temperature difference causes the test sample to surface liquid in the condensation cycle.

Condensation water generated inside the chamber is pure distilled water which improves the efficiency and saves the machine from salt deposition. We always suggest each condensation cycle of the accelerated weathering tester must be for 12 hours. Please ensure the exposure of condensation and UV must proceed respectively.

This unit creates a man-made atmosphere that can simulate Sunlight, Rain & condensation which could result in damaged samples by exposure to UV light, Moisture & heat.

UV weather Test chamber provides the results of damaged samples after several days or weeks which we generally get outside after a few months. These results are explained based on discoloration, cracks, brittle, fading & decrease of strength. These results help in the improvement of the material quality in terms of durability.
