HOW TO USE THE AUTOCLAVE CORRECTLY?
- The duration of the process is, on average, 40 minutes (check the exact time with the manufacturer). This takes into account the entire heating time and exposure of materials to high temperatures. The temperature even varies from up to 134ºC, according to the model.
- This cleaning facilitates air circulation and drainage, in addition to promoting the penetration of steam into the equipment.
- All of this is done without the need for human handling, as the autoclave itself performs the entire procedure.
- The only job is to pack the equipment and load it into the machine.
STEP-BY-STEP AUTOCLAVE STERILIZATION PROCESS:
- First it is necessary to put a certain amount of water in the autoclave chamber. Each machine model has a different indication and it is necessary to follow it;
- For materials in a more critical state of cleaning, it is ideal to leave them for about 30 minutes in a disinfectant solution before sterilization;
- The process on how to pack dental supplies for sterilization is as follows: pack your working supplies (scissors, tweezers, high rotation, counter angle, etc.) in surgical grade paper — available in envelopes or rolls;
- Then, you should just place equipment of the same material in each sterilizer tray. If there is an object of different material, set it aside in another tray;
- Avoid overloading your autoclave and place only small objects at a time;
- For each package or tray, use a chemical indicator;
- Place the equipment properly packaged, always remembering to keep plastic in contact with plastic and lighter ones over heavier ones. This helps in air drainage and steam circulation;
- To prevent accumulation of water on concave objects, always place them face down;
- Turn on and wait for the heating and sterilization cycles to complete;
- Hang up and wait. Once the envelopes are cool, store all of them in a locker until ready to use. For this purpose, Formica cabinets or furniture that do not come into contact with moisture or heat are indicated.
These are some basic and essential precautions for before and after sterilization in the Horizontal & Vertical Autoclave, but they make all the difference in the process of sanitizing your work instruments.
CHECK BEFORE BUY A HORIZONTAL & VERTICAL AUTOCLAVE:
- You can always count on autoclave equipment suitable for your process, in perfect working order and with up-to-date technology.
- The focus of this modality is the acquisition of a good, not a solution.
- You have full control of your equipment’s condition and updates, including maintenance.
- However, all upgrade, maintenance, replacement parts and installation costs are the responsibility of the equipment owner.
- There is a need for an initial investment to purchase the autoclave machine.
- And if you need a replacement of equipment, due to breakdown or other need, you need to acquire a new one – which can lead to a loss of capital.
